Ipswich, UK (September 26, 2019) — Celestion, the premier manufacturer of guitar and bass loudspeakers celebrated for their classic guitar tones, is pleased to announce that they have teamed up with iconic British amplifier manufacturer Laney Amplification to create the Laney Cabinets Collection of Impulse Responses. The new Laney Cabinets Collection, along with the growing collection of authentic Celestion guitar speaker tones, is available for audition and download at CelestionPlus.
Celestion and Laney Amps have created an entirely new range of cabinet impulse responses based on the unique tones of Laney’s Black Country Custom cabinets– the LA212 2×12 and the LA412 4×12. This new range of cabinet impulse responses is for guitarists, producers and musicians who want to achieve the exceptional tone Laney Cabs provide when loaded with two iconic Celestion speakers – the G12M Greenback and the Heritage Series G12H (75). This new addition to the Backline Heroes cabinet impulse response range allows users to perfectly replicate Laney tone whether experimenting at home, recording in the studio, or playing live onstage.
The legendary Laney Amplification was formed in 1967, when Lyndon Laney was playing in a local band, ‘The Band of Joy’, with John Bonham on drums and Robert Plant on vocals. Laney’s interest in electronics, combined with a lack of funds for a proper amplifier, led him to turn his hand to amp construction. Originally working out of his father’s West Midlands garage, Laney’s aim was to design and build amplifiers with certain tonal characteristics that were simply unheard of at the time. Word quickly spread about the tone that could be achieved with these new Laney amps and he began selling to local musicians, including Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi. In 1970, Laney Amps’ signature tone was heard on Black Sabbath’s seminal, self-titled debut album, giving rise to the birth of a brand new genre: Heavy Metal. Demand for Laney’s amplifiers quickly grew too large for production to continue from a garage so manufacturing was moved temporarily to Digbeth’s infamous Custard Factory in Birmingham, then to Cradley Heath and finally to Halesowen in 2007. Since then, Laney Amps have grown and adapted to the market over the last 50 years to include a range of stunning cabs and pedals specially designed and built for guitars, bass, keyboards and drums.
The Laney Cabinet impulse responses, as with all genuine Celestion IRs, have been digitally captured by expert sound engineers in a world-class recording studio, meticulous recording techniques and state –of-the-art equipment. Celestion have used the same range of professional, studio mics (Shure SM57, Royer R-121 and Sennheiser MD421) in the same six fully-adjustable positions as the current range of cabinet impulse response to offer the same options – Balanced, Bright, Thin, Fat, Dark and Dark 2, as well as an additional rear mic for the open back cabinets. Both of these Laney Cabinet impulse response have additionally been recorded using a Neumann TLM 107 room mic (Left, Right and Stereo) to allow users to mix in as much desired tone as required. Options are even available to choose the sample rate and sample length (200ms or 500ms).
The Celestion Laney Cabinet IR collection includes:
- Laney LA212 2×12 – with Celestion G12M Greenbacks– The Laney LA212 is a 2×12 cabinet with a slanted design loaded with two Celestion G12M Greenbacks offset diagonally to give the speakers room to breathe. This ensures a hefty low-end response and unbelievably clear, resonant tones offering plenty of volume without any unwanted distortion.
- Laney LA412 4×12 – Heritage Series G12H(75Hz)– The Laney LA412 is the authentic replica of the cab used by Tony Iommi for Black Sabbath’s recordings and tours until 1979. This single angle 4×12 cabinet is loaded with four classic Celestion Heritage Series G12H speakers and was constructed with the same marine-grade birch plywood in identical oversized dimensions as the original LA412. With its tight and defined lows and incredible upper-midrange, the LA412 projects an unmistakable sound that can be felt all the way to the depths of hell!
The Celestion Laney Cabinet IRs can be purchased individually or as a pair for a 35% discount.
The New Laney Cabinet IRs can be downloaded in either .WAV format to be installed and used on the majority of DAWs or amp-modelling gear, or formatted specifically for use with the Two notes Wall of Sound environment.

About Celestion Impulse Responses
Celestion IRs, which capture the essential behavior of the cabinet in the specific space in which it was recorded, including the frequency and phase response of single drivers as well as the interaction of multiple speakers, offer the user significant benefits. In both recording and live production, Celestion IRs enable the desired tone to be precisely and consistently reproduced regardless of the music recording or live sound environment. And IR users can escape the limitations of a single mic and cabinet setup and explore a universe of possibilities to create the perfect tone. Once you find a tone that you love, it can be precisely recreated, in the studio or on the road, time after time. And the IRs allow Celestion customers to audition specific models before purchasing one or more physical speakers.
Celestion IR digital downloads are available in uncompressed, industry standard .WAV format at 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz and 96 kHz sample rates at 24 bit depth, in lengths of 200 and 500 milliseconds Once the files are downloaded and unzipped, users simply load the IRs into a convolution plug-in in their DAW or into other processing hardware. These formats will work in all known hardware capable of loading IRs, and for the most popular hardware Celestion have already grouped together the correct formats. Guitar processor manufacturers supported include (but are not limited to) Atomic Amps, Fractal Audio Systems, Kemper, Line 6, Logidy, Positive Grid, Two Notes, Headrush and Yamaha. The Celestion IR files may be downloaded in the sample rate and length appropriate for the hardware being used or as a complete package of all rates and lengths.
