Celestion Presents a DIY Cabinet Design for the F12-X200 Guitar Loudspeaker for Use with Profiling Amps, Modeling Software and Impulse Responses

Ipswich, UK (September 23, 2020) — Celestion, the premier manufacturer of guitar and bass loudspeakers and professional audio drivers for sound reinforcement applications, is very pleased to offer users a DIY custom cabinet design made specifically for the F12-X200 loudspeaker. The F12-X200 combines Celestion’s expertise in guitar speakers and pro audio speakers into one transducer that has the benefits of both. It is the first speaker designed especially for use with profiling amps, modeling software, impulse responses, and all technology for emulating coveted guitar amps and speaker cabinets, and delivers full range frequency response combined with the live feel of a guitar speaker.

Digital profiling and tone emulation technology is more popular than ever, and guitarists who use it require a speaker with a full-range, flat and accurate frequency response. General-purpose pro audio speakers are specifically built to deliver a very neutral response, which is ideal when it comes to sound reinforcement. However they can be somewhat clinical sounding, lacking the organic character and feel that is the hallmark of a great guitar speaker.

Conversely, traditional guitar speakers deliver the desired feel and musicality of the playing experience. But this comes at the cost of accuracy because they are purpose-built to generate tonal coloration through harmonic resonances: which can undermine the work the profiling/modeling rig is already doing. Celestion’s F12-X200 brings together the best attributes of both worlds into what Celestion like to call Full Range Live Response.

The F12-X200 is a coaxial speaker that delivers a frequency response from 60Hz all the way up to 20kHz. The higher frequency part of the signal is reproduced using a Celestion compression driver that has been integrated using a high quality crossover circuit, enabling the F12-X200 to reproduce the full spectrum of audible frequencies, for the most accurate output possible, whatever the playing environment or set-up.

Designed to produce a neutral output, the lighter moving mass and straighter sided cone—of a type commonly used with guitar speakers—still gives the F12- X200 the feel and live response of a traditional guitar speaker. The physicality and tactile response of the speaker is live, as it would be playing through a traditional guitar amp.

The F12-X200 works like any guitar speaker upgrade; it’s designed to be “plug and play” so that users can drop it into any regular open or closed back guitar speaker cabinet and be ready to go. Together with amp and profiling hardware a player will get all the tone that they have programmed with little or no additional coloration that would come from a traditional guitar speaker.

For those who would like to go a step further and squeeze every ounce of performance form the speaker, Celestion are now pleased to offer a custom cabinet design. Specifying 18mm birch plywood for optimum sound quality and ruggedness the DIY cabinet is also vented to further extend the bass, extracting maximum performance from the speaker’s full range capability.

While it wouldn’t generally be recommended to use a traditional guitar speaker with a vented cabinet which could risk low frequency over-excursion and damage to the speaker’s cone, the F12-X200’s pro audio parentage means there’s no risk of over-excursion at the lowest end of the frequency range.

About Celestion Impulse Responses

Celestion IRs, which capture the essential behavior of the cabinet in the specific space in which it was recorded, including the frequency and phase response of single drivers as well as the interaction of multiple speakers, offer the user significant benefits. In both recording and live production, Celestion IRs enable the desired tone to be precisely and consistently reproduced regardless of the music recording or live sound environment. And IR users can escape the limitations of a single mic and cabinet setup and explore a universe of possibilities to create the perfect tone. Once you find a tone that you love, it can be precisely recreated, in the studio or on the road, time after time. And the IRs allow Celestion customers to audition specific models before purchasing one or more physical speakers.

Celestion IR digital downloads are available in uncompressed, industry standard .WAV format at 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz and 96 kHz sample rates at 24 bit depth, in lengths of 200 and 500 milliseconds Once the files are downloaded and unzipped, users simply load the IRs into a convolution plug-in in their DAW or into other processing hardware. These formats will work in all known hardware capable of loading IRs, and for the most popular hardware Celestion have already grouped together the correct formats. Guitar processor manufacturers supported include Atomic Amps, Fractal Audio Systems, Kemper, Line 6, Logidy, Positive Grid, Two Notes, Headrush and Yamaha. The Celestion IR files may be downloaded in the sample rate and length appropriate for the hardware being used or as a complete package of all rates and lengths. Certain third party hardware requires the files to be converted into a proprietary format before use. Celestion Plus.

Guitar Player Bennett Dean Lewis Marvels over Celestion’s Magnificent 7 Impulse Response Collection

Nashville, TN (July 1, 2020) —Nashville-based musician Bennett Dean Lewis has been playing guitar since a very young age, but it wasn’t until college that he started to consider it as a career option.  Given his success since then, it’s a good thing he did. Starting with his first bar gigs in Athens, Georgia, he has supported such diverse talents as country-pop ingénue Lera Lynn, indie-rock darlings Of Montreal and most recently, acclaimed Sony-Columbia artist Maren Morris. While his stylistic range has naturally led to a lifelong quest for perfect tone, the demands of constant gigging and recording have made a streamlined amp rig and trouble-free monitor mixes just as important. Lewis recently discovered how Celestion Impulse Responses — accurate digital representations of the company’s legendary guitar speaker tones — deliver on both counts.

“I’ve always been a fan of Celestion’s physical speakers. I mean, you could really say they defined the sound of the electric guitar,” says Bennett. “It’s funny that I got into impulse responses at all, because I’m sort of the stereotype of the simple-minded guitarist. I like to run a Telecaster through a few pedals into a good amp, and that’s usually it. However, in live performance I’ve always had issues with mic bleed and my in-ear monitor mix not being as clean as I’d like. I started wondering, if you could get rid of the speaker cabinet and therefore the mics pointed at it, could that improve the mix?”

Bennett’s choice of Celestion Impulse Responses was the Magnificent 7 Collection,  which features  a line-up of tones of seven iconic 12-inch Celestion Speakers, including the Celestion Blue, G12M Greenback, Vintage 30, G12M-65 Creamback, G12H-75 Creamback, G12H Anniversary and Heritage Series G12-65.

“I started with a bundle called the Magnificent 7. It’s sort of a greatest hits of Celestion’s classic guitar speakers,” says Bennett. “The two from that collection that I keep going back to are the Alnico Blue and the Vintage 30. I have those set up in 1-by-12 and 2-by-12 configurations, as the IRs simulate the cabinet design as well as the speaker cone itself — open-back, closed-back, all the options. The Blue has this high-end presence that, for some reason, really helps with my in-ear monitor mix. It just sounds frickin’ killer. The cool thing, too, is that you can run a 50-watt head like the Morgan into the speaker simulation at full power, which in the real world might blow a physical speaker. The Waza has a through output for an actual cabinet, which you might use to record a miked signal along with a direct signal in the studio. Onstage, we’re not doing that. Point being, the Celestion IRs sound so good that we don’t have to!”

And for guitarists who might be skeptical and think nothing can replace a real speaker, Bennet adds:

In a live setting, you totally gain a lot more than you lose by using the Celestion IRs. The benefits to your monitor mix, to making the front-of-house engineer’s job easier, to the general cleanliness of everything, are just huge. It’s also a lot easier to keep your stage volume manageable. For realism, the Celestion IRs are spot-on. Another cool thing is, you can throw a hair of room reverb on the final output, which spreads the sound out in a realistic acoustic fashion, especially if you run in stereo as we do.”

And now especially when many are social distancing and working at home, Bennett points out the advantages of being able to work remotely with Celestion IRs.

“Two months ago or so I did a remote session. I didn’t tell anyone what my signal chain was, and the clients emailed me asking, “Man, this sounds great! What kind of amp and cabinet are you using? Which mics?,” says Bennett. “When I tipped them off that there was no cabinet and there were no mics, they could hardly believe it. Again, if you’re working from home in a compromised room, the Celestion IRs actually sound better than miking a cabinet. With the Celestion IRs, it sounds like you recorded some rare and expensive cabinet in a world-class space.”

Finally, Bennett Lewis points out the practical benefits of having so many IR tones at his disposal:

“If you do much recording, the Celestion Impulse Responses give you a whole arsenal of different speaker cones and cabinets. You’re not just stuck with the sound of the one or two amps you might have. That’s great for me because I’ve always been a jack of all trades,” he adds. “I like everything from new country to Bowie to jazz and classical, so it’s great to know that with the Celestion IRs, I can have the appropriate tones at arm’s reach. For live use in the Maren Morris band, the Celestion IRs have been a complete game changer. There’s definitely a renaissance of guitar “tone questing” going on right now, and this impulse response technology is at the center of it. I’m eager to see where it all goes.”

About ENGL Amps

In 1984, the first programmable guitar amp was a sensation, something that had never existed before. Back then, when two channels and a master volume on an amp counted as comfort features, Edmund Engl’s futuristic concept of an amp was equivalent to a landslide. Engl wasn’t an electronics freak, but a musician who saw things with the pragmatic necessity of musical practice and he thought that such a programmable amp would be idea, with a variety of sounds available via footswitch. Enter Horst Langer, the technically savvy friend and ENGL’s technical mastermind. With his know-how, he was able to realize every idea and every ENGL amp is a child of his mind.  No matter whether it’s a small roar cube of the kind of a Screamer or an Ironball, the compact Tops Gigmaster , Rockmaster and Metalmaster or new custom pedals,  today every product breathes the enthusiastic spirit with which Edmund Engl and Horst Langer set off back then. ENGL consistently implements the quality standards of Made in Germany. High-quality components and the best workmanship lead to a perfect result and a sound that has received the best reviews in the trade press and is appreciated by prominent players all over the world. The list of ENGL devotees reads like a who’s who in rock and roll, including Ritchie Blackmore, Steve Morse, Paul Stanley, Vivian Campbell, Glenn Tipton, Richie Faulkner, Marty Friedman, Mick Box, Bob Kulick, Victor Smolski, Stuart Smith, and others. https://www.engl-amps.com/

Celestion Warranty Policy

Retail Warranty Policy

The warranty on Celestion loudspeaker products is valid for three (3) years from date of initial purchase. Celestion’s retail product warranty covers the original purchaser and any subsequent owners, provided the product was originally purchased from an authorised Celestion distributor or reseller. If you are making a warranty claim it’s important to provide an original and dated proof of purchase or the claim cannot be processed.

This warranty covers damage specifically arising from defects in materials and manufacturing. Your speaker is not covered if damage has: been caused by product modification, accident, neglect, misuse, abuse;  been incurred during transportation; resulted from repairs, alterations, or misrepresentation by the reseller; been caused during initial shipping, for example a bent chassis*.

Note, the warranty will not cover any product that has had labels or date code defaced, modified or removed.

*All speakers are individually inspected at the factory before packing. Goods dropped from a height can become damaged, even with no sign of external box damage, therefore damage of this type must be claimed from the delivery company.

Retail warranty claim process

1.     My speaker came loaded in a cabinet

If the speaker came to you loaded into a “finished product” for example a guitar combo or sound reinforcement cabinet, then the warranty claim will be processed by that product’s manufacturer. In this case, the speaker is covered under warranty for the same period as the finished product.  Please contact the manufacturer of that finished product, or the reseller from where it was purchased, for more information on how to process your warranty claim.

2.     My speaker came from a store/online reseller

If the speaker was originally bought from an authorised Celestion reseller such as an online retailer or a store, then the warranty period is three (3) years and the claim will be processed by that reseller. To make a warranty claim, simply follow these steps:

  • Communicate your claim directly to the reseller the product was bought from and ensure you provide a proof of purchase/receipt.
  • Goods must be kept until a final decision is made by the reseller in conjunction with Celestion. Sometimes it may be necessary to have the faulty product returned to Celestion for inspection.
  • Return of goods under warranty should be arranged and paid for by the purchaser. This will be reimbursed if the claim is successful.
  • Repair, replacement or credit will be at the reseller’s discretion and will be provided in full, once the claim has been approved.
  • Shipping of replacement or repaired goods will be arranged by the reseller at their cost.

Other Types of Warranty

1.     Celestion OEM Warranty

Finished system brands, cabinet manufacturers and OEMs (Original Engineering Manufacturers) are covered by the Celestion OEM Warranty. Click here for more information.

2.     Celestion Reseller Warranty

Distributors, dealers and other authorised resellers are covered by the Celestion Reseller Warranty. Click here for more information.

Celestion Announces the Availability of the Ruby Guitar Speaker Impulse Responses in Two notes Format

Ipswich, UK (March 24, 2020) —Celestion is delighted to announce the availability of their Celestion Ruby Two Notes Guitar Speaker Impulse Responses, for use with the critically acclaimed Torpedo (Studio, Live, C.A.B) hardware, the speaker and miking simulation engine; and Wall of Sound software environment (a DAW plug-in version of Torpedo.)  The Celestion Ruby Two Notes Impulse Responses have been fully re-created in Two Notes’ proprietary format and are available both in the  Two Notes store, as well as alongside the full line of other genuine Celestion Impulse Responses on CelestionPlus.

The Celestion Ruby

Two Notes speaker impulse responses ooze rich musical warmth and bring a familiar alnico vibe, complete with mellow highs and a sophisticated midrange. This Two notes speaker impulse response is the perfect digital representation of the Celestion Ruby delivering a mellow clean sound and rich, saturated gain tones all without sacrificing any of the character you’d expect from Celestion’s world-famous alnico speakers. Recorded in a world-class live room, the new Ruby Two Notes speaker impulse response collection provides a rich variety of guitar speaker tonality, with depth, balance and supreme musicality.

The Celestion Ruby impulse responses in Two Notes format include five different cabinet configurations, available both individually and as a collection:

1×12 (open back)

1×12 (closed back)

2×12 (open back)

4×12(closed back)

The Two notes IR format gives users full access to all the available functionality of the Two notes environment. These are all new IR captures, closely following the Two notes IR recording protocol. Each cabinet is recorded with 8 microphones, and the user has the capability to move around each microphone in the virtual room: an almost limitless number of IRs generated by the Two notes proprietary format. Each impulse response is fully compatible with the Overload Parameter (available in both Wall of Sound and Torpedo Studio), a unique non-linear convolution processing capability that is able to reproduce the distortion of the speaker when pushed hard.   And there is there’s no difference in quality between the current WAV files and the new Two notes’ format files. Customers get the same highly accurate speaker tones, simply in a format best tailored to the Two notes environment.

Furthermore, adding Celestion IRs to the Two notes environment means users also get the Celestion quality tone re-produced using five additional microphones: AKG C414EB, AKG D12, Beyer Dynamic M160, Coles 4038 and the Neumann U47.

Customers can still use Celestion’s standard WAV format IRs on Two notes’ hardware and software as before, but without the full functionality and additional microphones offered by the Two Notes proprietary format.

The new Celestion Two Notes Ruby Impulse Responses join the collection of other IRs available in Two Notes format such as: Neo 250 Copperback (Two Notes,) Laney cabinets (Two Notes,) Orange Cabinets (Two Notes,)  Suhr Cabinets (Two Notes,) Celestion Blue (Two Notes,)  G12M Greenback (Two Notes) and Vintage 30 (Two Notes.)
