About Celestion Impulse Responses

Celestion IRs, which capture the essential behavior of the cabinet in the specific space in which it was recorded, including the frequency and phase response of single drivers as well as the interaction of multiple speakers, offer the user significant benefits. In both recording and live production, Celestion IRs enable the desired tone to be precisely and consistently reproduced regardless of the music recording or live sound environment. And IR users can escape the limitations of a single mic and cabinet setup and explore a universe of possibilities to create the perfect tone. Once you find a tone that you love, it can be precisely recreated, in the studio or on the road, time after time. And the IRs allow Celestion customers to audition specific models before purchasing one or more physical speakers.

Celestion IR digital downloads are available in uncompressed, industry standard .WAV format at 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz and 96 kHz sample rates at 24 bit depth, in lengths of 200 and 500 milliseconds Once the files are downloaded and unzipped, users simply load the IRs into a convolution plug-in in their DAW or into other processing hardware. These formats will work in all known hardware capable of loading IRs, and for the most popular hardware Celestion have already grouped together the correct formats. Guitar processor manufacturers supported include Atomic Amps, Fractal Audio Systems, Kemper, Line 6, Logidy, Positive Grid, Two Notes, Headrush and Yamaha. The Celestion IR files may be downloaded in the sample rate and length appropriate for the hardware being used or as a complete package of all rates and lengths. Certain third party hardware requires the files to be converted into a proprietary format before use. Celestion Plus.

Celestion Speaker Impulse Responses for Three of the Company’s Most Iconic Speakers Now Available in Two notes Proprietary Format

Ipswich, UK (October 30, 2018) — Celestion is delighted to announce that three of their most iconic speaker Impulse Responses – the Vintage 30, G12M Greenback and Celestion Blue, are now available in Two Notes format, for use with the company’s critically acclaimed Torpedo (Studio, Live, C.A.B) hardware, the speaker and miking simulation engine; and Wall of Sound software environment (a DAW plug-in version of Torpedo.)  The Celestion Impulse Responses have been fully re-created in Two notes’ proprietary format and are available both in the Two notes store, as well as alongside the full line of Celestion Impulse Responses on CelestionPlus.

This move is part of Celestion’s ongoing commitment to make Celestion speaker IRs available and easy to use on as many different hardware and software platforms as possible, giving customers maximum choice about which gear they can use to generate awesome and authentic Celestion tone.

With the Two notes IR format, users now have full access to all the available Wall of Sound functionality. These are all new IR captures, closely following the Two notes IR recording protocol. Each cabinet is recorded with 8 microphones, and the user has the capability to move around each microphone in the virtual room: an almost limitless number of IRs generated by the Two notes proprietary format. Each impulse response is fully compatible with the Overload Parameter (available in both Wall of Sound and Torpedo Studio), a unique non-linear convolution processing capability that is able to reproduce the distortion of the speaker when pushed hard.   And there is there’s no difference in quality between the current WAV files and the new Two notes’ format files. Customers get the same highly accurate speaker tones, simply in a format best tailored to the Two notes environment.

Furthermore, adding Celestion IRs to the Two notes environment means users also get the Celestion quality tone re-produced using five additional microphones: AKG C414EB, AKG D12, Beyer Dynamic M160, Coles 4038 and the Neumann U47.

Customers can still use Celestion’s standard WAV format IRs on Two notes’ hardware and software as before, but without the full functionality and additional microphones offered by the Two notes proprietary format.

Users who want the new Celestion IRs in two notes format have two options:

CelestionPlus website – Just choose ‘Two notes’ from the ‘Shop’ drop-down menu and click through to either Celestion Blue Two notes, G12M Two notes or Vintage 30 Two notes. From here you can select the speaker cabinet pack, or individual speaker cabinets.

Two notes website – Two notes format IRs are available from the Two notes store, as single cabinets or as speaker collection packs.

Celestion  plans to expand the range of speakers available in Two notes format in the future – so sign up to their newsletter here or follow the company on Twitter or Facebook for the latest announcements.

Impulse Response Library – Sound Like Your Guitar Hero

Sounding Like Your Guitar Hero Has Never Been Easier with an Impulse Response Library

If you bought your current Celestion speaker in order to help you sound more like your favourite guitar player, you’re not alone. Maybe you got a Vintage 30 to give you a Slash sound, or perhaps you fell for the G12M Greenback for that Angus Young tone.
Of course, most of us have several guitar heroes – but buying multiple classic speakers to represent them all just isn’t realistic. However, with a selection of IRs from the CelestionPlus impulse response library, you can experience the tones of many more guitar legends without breaking the bank. With IRs you
don’t just get to choose the speaker type, you can choose your cabinet type too (1×12, 2×12 or 4×12) – and even your mic and its position – to get as close as possible to the sound you want.

What are the Best Celestion Speakers for Metal?

This is a question we see asked a lot on social media and forums, and it’s not surprising since some of the most iconic hard rock or metal guitarists and bands have chosen Celestion speakers to give them a properly heavy sound, either throughout their careers or for periods of time.
Well, there’s no single Celestion speaker that’s going to be the right answer here. It depends a lot on the type of metal you’re after – there are a lot of metal flavours to choose from – and of course your own personal preference.
For an “off-the-shelf” answer that’s guaranteed to give you a great heavy tone, a Vintage 30 or a G12M Greenback are very safe choices. But if you want to experiment more widely, without it costing a fortune in speakers, we recommend trying out some of our impulse responses. Our speaker IRs not only faithfully replicate our classic Celestion speaker tones, but also let you choose the cabinet configurations (think 4×12) and mic mixes (think Dark or
Dark 2 from our mix options) which go such a long way to giving you that metal sound.

And now, its distinctive tones are available in digital form, becoming the latest addition our range of impulse responses. You can find out more about how the Lynchback came into being – in the words of the man himself – and about our newest IR, at our blog on celestionplus.com, the IR download site.
